Blackberry
The technology
BlackBerry is primarily known for its ability to send and receive e-mail from a Blackberry mobile phone. It has a built-in keyboard and system navigation is accomplished by a scroll ball in the middle of the device.
Before Microsoft released their Windows Mobile system, Blackberry enjoyed many years of having no competition in the corporate mobile email market which has helped them establish a large market share.
Whereas Windows Mobile is the best choice for organisations using a Windows 2003 server, there are many organisations still using older Windows systems or systems by other manufacturers such as Lotus Domino and Novell GroupWise where Blackberry is the only choice.
There are several different software server packages available for the Blackberry. One is called BIS which allows you to enjoy all the key benefits of Email and the Internet without the need for a server or any other IT equipment.
The other is called BES and requires a server. This integrates with Microsoft Exchange and some Lotus and GroupWise solutions, providing a wireless extension to your existing desktop email client with real-time over the air synchronisation.
BES is ideal for corporate environments where centralised administration is required.
The devices
Although there are new Blackberry phones in the pipeline which touchscreen capability, most Blackberry phones are designed with a screen above and small qwerty keyboard that you operate with your thumbs.
This is a popular format but can result in a phone that is somewhat bulky compared with a normal mobile phone. Some of the latest phones even come with SatNav and 3G.
If you would like a Blackberry system, then contact Sprint Integration and we can setup your servers and phones to take advantage of this popular system.
